A February federal court ruling is requiring the California Department of Education to release all personal data — even including names and Social Security numbers — on general and special education students since Jan. 1, 2008: more than 10 million students including your child’s information. Take action now to voice your objection to releasing your child’s personal information!

Follow these step-by-step instructions to complete the Objection to Disclosure of Student Information and Records:
1. Download the form — available in English and Spanish: at capta.org
2. Mail the completed form, one for each student, exactly as required to:

The deadline to submit objection forms and make your voice heard is April 1. Do not fax or email the form, and do not phone or message – only hard-copy forms will be accepted.
 

WHAT CALIFORNIA STATE PTA IS DOING

It’s hard to fathom that a judge would allow such an overexposure of children’s information. While California State PTA is not part of the court ruling, we are exploring other avenues to delay, reduce or possibly reverse the release of so much of our children’s personal information. California State PTA has a long history of protecting and upholding students’ privacy rights, and today is no different. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more

In April 2012, the Morgan Hill Concerned Parents Association and the Concerned Parent Association filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Education (CDE) alleging non-compliance by local education agencies with special education laws. The suit also alleges the CDE fails to monitor, investigate and correct such non-compliance in accordance with the law.
While this lawsuit called for students’ general demographic information, a federal court has just ruled that CDE must release all data — even including names and Social Security numbers — it has collected on general and special education students since Jan. 1, 2008 – more than 10 million students.

EDHS PTSA SCHOLARSHIP

 

 

El Diamante High School PTSA

2015-2016 Scholarship Applications

are now available in EDHS Student Services office.

 

1.  Must be a current PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) member for a minimum of 30 days.

2.  GPA of at least 2.5.

 3.  Plan to attend a two or four year college in the fall of 2016.

4.  Must submit proof of college acceptance, if awarded the scholarship.

5.  DEADLINE:  Friday, April 1, 2016, by 3:30p.m.

We are currently seeking parents, students, teachers or community members interested in serving on the El Diamante High School PTSA Executive board for next school year 2016/2017.

 Volunteering on the PTSA board as an officer is a short-term and rewarding experience. 

 You will have the opportunity to work side by side with other parents, students and teachers, and our principal.

You will gain knowledge about our school and help with school and PTSA programs that help make school fun and rewarding!

Free training and mentoring is available to everyone who volunteers their time and expertise on the PTSA board.

Student scholarships for graduating high-school seniors help you achieve your dreams

Your education doesn’t end once you walk across that high-school graduation stage.
That’s why California State PTA has two scholarships to help you achieve your college dreams and your life goals.

 

OPPORTUNITIES EACH YEAR

Two scholarships are available for your application:

• $750 Volunteer Service Scholarship — This scholarship recognizes graduating seniors for their volunteer service in schools and communities, allowing them to register for courses at accredited colleges, universities, trade or technical schools. Applicants must be PTA members graduating from a California high school between January 1 and June 30 of the current academic year. Applications, reference forms and letters must be received by California State PTA by February 1; proof of enrollment and completion of coursework must be provided to California State PTA by June 1.
• $500 Dr. Ralph E. White Graduating Senior Scholarship – Honoring the volunteer and public-service legacy of Dr. Ralph E. White and his wife, Eleanor, this additional scholarship provides $500 each to two successful applicants of the Volunteer Service Scholarship who intend to pursue a career in a medical field.

All applicants are notified of their status in March. Scholarship winners receive a letter of congratulations and recognition certificate from California State PTA along with a check.

APPLICATION TIPS

Don’t forget to include these items in your application:

• Proof of your PTA membership
• Descriptive essay (maximum two pages) outlining your PTA responsibilities and your career plans, goals, objectives and any other information you feel would be valuable to the selection committee
• All of your school service-related activities including any service you provide to others in your school
• Your volunteer service in the community
• Two completed reference forms and letters, written specifically for this application (first reference written by a community volunteer leader unrelated to you and with whom you volunteered; second reference written by a member of the high-school faculty)
• If you are mailing a hard copy of your application packet, please remember to ask that reference forms and letters be given to you in a sealed envelope for you to include in the packet; if you’re applying online, provide the link specified in the online application to your two referees to submit their completed reference forms and letters.
